Litwiller Maple Syrup
1285 8th Street Almena, WI 54805
Making maple syrup has been in our family since 1983. It started out in the garage on the yard with a small open pan. After about 5 years our parents decided it was time to expand and built a small shed on our property. After Dad passed away in 2002 the boys continued on with the tradition of making maple syrup every spring. Now two of the brothers run it as a side business along with their dairy farm. Their other siblings still enjoy coming over and helping as needed though!
As time went on, we have continued to expand our syrup business. We now use a 3' x 12' wood fired evaporator with a steam away. We filter our syrup twice before bottling for top quality. Another upgrade we are enjoying is the vacuum system in our woods. It all had to be redone after we were forced to log our mess of a woods following the bad storm in summer of 2019. Between that and building our new syrup shed, the men stayed very busy! But their hard work payed off when we could move into our new syrup shed and bottling facility for the 2020 season! We are very enthused with our new setup but of course a little nostalgic as well about leaving the original shed.
Maple syrup season is a highly anticipated event among the family. We spend our evenings together in the syrup shed with our small children while we cook the sap down to syrup. Often friends join us to sip coffee and chat. We love to have visitors stop in and look around so if you are in the area during maple syrup season, come on over!
